The San Francisco 49ers have wiped any signs of linebacker De'Vondre Campbell from the team locker room after he refused to play. Earlier on Monday, it was announced that the franchise had suspended Campbell for the remainder of the season following his behavior during last week's Thursday Night Football.

Campbell, who was replaced by Dre Greenlaw as a starter, refused to enter the game during the third quarter of the 12-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. As expected the Niners handed down the punishment Monday, slapping Campbell with a three-game suspension.

However, the team appears to have taken their exiling of Campbell a step further, clearing his possessions out of the locker room, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. Campbell's locker had reportedly been emptied out and his name plate removed, Wagoner reported.

By suspending him rather than waiving Campbell, the Niners are denying him the chance to sign elsewhere for the remainder of the season.

The team reportedly felt that releasing Campbell and allowing him to join another team would be a 'reward.'. 'We have suspended De'Vondre Campbell Sr. for three games due to conduct detrimental to the team,' general manager John Lynch said Monday. 'We will have no further comment on the matter.'.
