BBC Breakfast's presenters have urged viewers to heed the Met Office's amber alerts for snow and ice, with weather disruption expected today (Saturday, January 4). On today's show, Sarah Campbell and Ben Thompson had just wrapped up a piece about Britain's ponds before leading into the incoming frosty weekend conditions in the weather forecast.
Meteorologist Sarah Keith-Lucas joined via video link in the studio as Sarah Campbell remarked: "There's going to be a few frozen ponds this weekend which links us nicely to this morning's weather. "It is going to be cold for a lot of us," Sarah said, right before seasoned weather professional Sarah Keith-Lucas chimed in with her expertise, saying: "It is indeed. Yes.".
The Express reports the meteorologist told viewers: "We have got some cold weather on the way this weekend, relatively calm start to the weekend but things are going to turn quite disruptive in terms of the weather.". The public has been advised to prepare for as much as 14 inches of snow expected by day's end, in light of two amber warnings by the Met Office.
A wide area will be under an amber warning for snow and ice starting at 6pm to 12pm on Sunday, including Gloucestershire, Wales, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Manchester, while another alert concerning snow from 9pm till the stroke of midnight on Sunday covers Northern England.
