Belle Gibson's former friend has revealed what Netflix got wrong about the night she confronted the cancer scammer. Chanelle McAuliffe, from Melbourne, first met the wellness influencer when she was asked to interview her as part of a magazine internship in 2014. The pair's friendship is one of the major plot points in Netflix's Apple Cider Vinegar, which is a fictionalised dramatisation of how Belle's lies were eventually exposed.

Earlier this week, Chanelle - who acted as a whistleblower in the high-profile case - shared a TikTok deciphering fact from fiction in the hit Netflix series. At the time of their first meeting, Belle was in the process of launching her app The Whole Pantry, which had 200,000 downloads in the first month and was later picked by Apple to feature on their first Apple Watch. However, Chanelle never worked as Belle's manager as the show depicts. In reality, she grew increasingly suspicious of her after knowing Belle for a year - and later tipped off journalists at The Age newspaper in Melbourne.

She explained in her video: 'What they didn't show about the night I confronted Belle is I first went to one of our mutual friends and told him about my suspicions. 'And then he realised that things didn't make sense either.'. Pictured: Bella Gibson after winning the Social Media Star of the Year at Cosmopolitan's Fun Fearless Female Awards in November 2014. Together, the pair went to Belle's home and asked to see any evidence of her cancer diagnosis. When set up her Instagram account @healing.belle in 2012, the mother-of-one claimed she had been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. Over the years, Belle also claimed she had cancer in her blood, spleen, kidney, liver and uterus as well as having multiple heart surgeries and suffering a stroke. Chanelle continued: 'I did demand to see medical evidence from Belle, which she couldn't provide.

'And out of all the desperate things, excuses and lies she was coming up with that night, she then said, "okay, I'll prove to you that I have cancer".'. Belle then asked her acupuncturist to come over the house and reassure her friends she was telling the truth. When Chanelle asked how the acupuncturist knew for a fact that Belle had cancer, he replied: 'Because she told me.'. In episode five of Apple Cider Vinegar, the character of Chanelle (played by Aisha Dee) goes to confront Belle one-on-one at her luxurious mansion.

In the dramatisation, Belle (played by Kaitlyn Dever) bursts into tears and says she doesn't keep medical records in her home because she doesn't want the 'negative energy'.

Belle's boyfriend Clive (played by Ashley Zukerman) is the only other person who gets involved in the heated conversation and there is no visit from Belle's acupuncturist. However, Chanelle did also claim Netflix made Belle's relationship with Clive and her son appear more strained that it actually was in real life. In her video, which has amassed over 38,000 likes, Chanelle said she 'never saw Belle be nasty towards Clive' like the show depicts - but that she could sometimes be 'dismissive' of him.

She added: 'Whilst Belle faked a seizure in front of her son and her son did know that his mum was "sick", which is unforgivable, I actually did see them have a loving relationship - unlike what was in the show.'. Chanelle ended her video by shedding light on her relationship with Jessica Ainscough, who is thought to have been a large inspiration for the character of Milla - a fellow wellness influencer using alternative therapies to treat her cancer.

She explained: 'I wasn't Belle or Milla's manager. I was a close friend of Belle's and I knew Jess because we grew up in the same town but we weren't close.'. In the show, Chanelle works as Milla's manager as her blogging career takes off - and rushes to her friend's side when her cancer returns. Earlier this year, Chanelle revealed in an Instagram post that she did not contribute towards the Netflix series and how she 'didn't feel entirely comfortable' with the dramatisation.
