Jack Catterall meets Arnold Barboza Jr later tonight in a huge night of boxing. A shot at current champion Teofimo Lopez and the WBO super-lightweight title is on the line in Manchester, with ‘El Gato’ finally closing in on what could be the biggest night of his career. Catterall has certainly earned this. The Chorley-born fighter has made light work of both Josh Taylor and Regis Prograis of late, building up a head of steam and finally moving on from the controversy in his defeat against Taylor almost three years ago now. Destiny could await as a result and there is just one more hurdle to overcome.

Still, getting past Barboza Jr will be easier said than done. The American was perhaps not at his best against either Sean McComb or Jose Ramirez but boasts a formidable record and would no doubt love to spoil the party. However, a cynical view may suggest that neither Taylor or Prograis had too much to give at this stage of their careers, albeit that does feel slightly harsh.
