The mother of Gabby Petito's killer Brian Laundrie wrote him a chilling 'burn after reading' letter in which she said she would help him bury a body because she loved him so much. Petito was killed by her fiancé Laundrie in Wyoming while they were on a road trip in the summer of 2021. Investigators determined she died by manual strangulation and had been dead for three to four weeks, and her death was ruled a homicide.

Laundrie later died by suicide from a gunshot wound to the head in October 2021. His remains were found in Florida's Carlton Reserve. Before Petito's remains were discovered - and when Laundrie went on the run - FBI agents searched his home and found that his mother, Roberta Laundrie, had penned a shocking personal note. The note, which she maintains was written before he killed her during their road trip across the country, is laid bare in Netflix's new documentary series American Murder: Gabby Petito, which premiered on the platform on February 17.

'The letter to Brian was written prior to Gabby and Brian leaving my home for their trip,' the statement read. 'Previously, I submitted an affidavit to the court for very limited purposes but that is not the whole story,' she said. 'Now that the letter has been shared, I ask that you read it in its entirety and understand that the letter contains other phrases besides those highlighted by Pat Reilly (the Petitos' attorney) for sensationalism and to bolster his case.'.

In her statement to the court, Roberta admitted her letter did contain references that some would think were about her son and Petito, but she maintained there is 'no connection' between her letter and the deaths. 'While I used words that seem to have a connection with Brian's actions and his taking of Gabby's life, I never would have fathomed the events that unfolded months later between Brian and Gabby would reflect the words in my letter.
