However, leaving the pitch in the late stages of the match, the 29-year-old player could be seen with a golf ball-sized lump on his head. When manager Grant McCann subbed off the Englishman, he appeared in good spirits despite an elimination from the tournament. It is understood that the player received medical help once crossing the line of the pitch. However, the former Newcastle right back appeared in good spirits as he left the pitch in the 80th minute. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace with newcomer Ben Chilwell - who played his first game since October at Chelsea - is set to face south London rivals Millwall in the next round of the FA Cup. Sterry has a long career in England but is mostly remembered for his time in Newcastle, his boyhood club, where he featured between 2015 and 2019, including two loan spells in Coventry City and Crewe Alexandra.

He was part of the Magpies' side, which won promotion to the Premier League in 2017 with manager Rafael Benitez on board, after a year in the Championship. Newcastle have since seen significant progress in the top-league placement, while Sterry seemed to finally have found his team after his move to Doncaster Rovers in July 2023 over a free transfer from Hartlepool United. However, they lost to Palace which heavily rotated their squad on Sunday. Chelsea loanee Ben Chilwell appeared in the second half to play his first game since October.
