As EastEnders' highly anticipated 40th anniversary approaches, Kacey Ainsworth, who played the role of Little Mo Slater has opened up on the character's future. Kacey joined the BBC soap in 2000 before leaving in 2006. The character was involved in many hard hitting storylines including abuse from her first husband, Trevor. She is also the mother to Freddie Slater, who is currently in the soap, played by Bobby Brazier.

Although not on screen since her exit in 2006, Little Mo was last mentioned off screen in 2023, when Freddie went to visit her. When Little Mo left in 2006, she went to start a new life for herself and her son. On Wednesday, Kacey joined Lorraine to speak about hit ITV drama Grantchester. When asked about her return to the show, amid the 40th anniversary, Kacey said: "She's not dead." When asked what the character is now doing, Kacey joked: "I think she's on the tube. She's just going round the circle line," as Lorraine added: "Never say never.".

Next week, the soap will see the return of EastEnders legend Grant Mitchell, played by Ross Kemp after his brother Phil has been seen struggling with his mental health. Teasing his return, producer Chris Clenshaw said that "his return will play a significant part in the show's 40th anniversary, and will make up many moments of truly unmissable TV.". Away from Albert Square, Kacey Ainsworth is starring in ITV's Grantchester, as Cathy Keating and has written tonight's upcoming episode. Speaking to Lorraine, Kacey said it's "something she always wanted to do.".

The former EastEnders star recently opened up about working alongside Robson Green, revealing the cast 'have to be careful' until he's had his first cup of coffee. Speaking on The One Show to hosts Lauren Laverne and Roman Kemp, Kacey revealed: "No, he's definitely not high maintenance! He's absolutely brilliant. I mean he's one of the executive producers and was really, supportive of me doing this, doing the writing of the episode, So yeah, I mean, he's fantastic... After a coffee.".

Wednesday's episode of Grantchester is a female centric and boasts an all female cast. Kacey revealed that she had approached the producers of the show about the idea, as she wanted to explore the female characters in more depth. "We've got like a really huge range of women. And quite a lot in period dramas, sometimes they're portrayed very stereotypically. It's just about, you know, being wives, mothers or objects of desire and all of that kind of stuff. So wanted to deepen that," she said.
