So the ultimate bragging rights are at stake in this rescheduled fixture that was called off because of Storm Darragh on December 7.
And both will fancy their chances. However, both will need to pick themselves up after a miserable weekend in the FA Cup. Everton were comfortably beaten by Bournemouth for the third time this season, while Liverpool suffered a giant killing at the hands of Championship Plymouth Argyle.
The Toffees would have preferred last season's 2-0 win over Liverpool to have been their farewell to Goodison - especially given they last won consecutive league Merseyside derbies in the 1984-85 campaign. The result ended Liverpool's 12-game unbeaten away run in the Premier League against Everton (W3 D9). But hopes are high with David Moyes in charge. His arrival has seen Everton have win their last three top-flight games by an aggregate score of 8-2 – it’s as many wins as they’d had in their previous 21 league games, and as many goals as they’d scored in their previous 14.
However, Moyes won just three of his 22 Premier League Merseyside derbies in charge between 2002 and 2013 (D7 L12). As for Arne Slot, this will be his first meeting with Everton as Liverpool manager. But his side are unbeaten in their last 19 Premier League games (W14 D5), while nobody in the division is even close to matching their league form away from home (W9 D3).
