When checking into a hotel, it’s easy to focus on things like your room key and the view. But according to flight attendant Kat Kamalani, there are a few critical safety tips every traveller should follow to ensure a secure and comfortable stay. In a recent TikTok video, Kat shared some clever advice that could help avoid unnecessary risks while travelling.
One of the most important tips Kat offers is not to reveal your room number in public. Whether you're chatting with hotel staff or other guests, "Never say your room number out loud," she warns. It’s easy to forget the potential risks of sharing this information. In crowded areas, someone could overhear and use it to track down where you're staying.
Kat also offers some other tips for keeping safe and making sure your hotel room has been cleaned. Check your room. Once you’re inside your room, don’t rush to unpack. Kat recommends making sure there’s no one hiding behind the door or inside the space. She says: "Always make sure there’s nobody behind you when you’re going into your room.”. Once inside, take a quick look under the bed and behind the curtains to ensure no one is lurking.
Lock the doors. Security should be your top priority. "Lock the doors," Kat says, but don’t stop there. Engage the top lock or deadbolt as well for extra protection. Bed bugs. "Check for bed bugs," she urges. Inspect the corners of the mattress and bed frame for any signs. Kat also suggests removing decorative pillows and top covers as they are rarely washed.
