He played a crucial role in the team winning the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal last term. This included a run of 51 matches unbeaten under manager Xabi Alonso. But unlike Arsenal, Xhaka gets the festive period off work due to the winter break in Germany. The midfielder has taken the opportunity to go on holiday with their pregnant wife, Leonita, and their two daughters, Ayana and Laneya.

The Swiss international has clipped most of his hair off as he has gone for a buzz cut. Fans have been left shocked by the bold new look as they reacted in the comment section. One posted: "Xhaka buzz cut before GTA 6.". A second commented: "They aren't ready for buzzed Xhaka.".

A third wrote: "Just when he couldn't be more intimidating in midfield.". A fourth said: "Looking good Granit.". Xhaka will return to action with Leverkusen on January 10 against Borussia Dortmund. It will have been five weeks since their previous game, which was a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the DFB Pokal.
