Gogglebox star sparks concern from fans with worrying picture from hospital bed

Gogglebox star Tom Malone Senior has sparked concern from fans after sharing a picture of a grisly-looking shoulder injury. The TV star took to Instagram with a snap of him in hospital, looking down at his arm as it was bandaged up and held in a sling. Despite the concerning image, he cracked jokes in the caption, writing: ‘Woke up with a nappy as a dressing, was caught off guard when the nurse said she had to change the nappy!.

‘Grateful to our NHS, top notch care Thank you, home now!!!!’. He didn’t go into further detail on what caused the injury or how long he had been in hospital for. Fans and friends alike rushed to share their well wishes in the comments, with Gogglebox co-stars Dave and Shirley writing: ‘Get well soon mate love Dave and Shirley xx.’. Tom’s wife Julie replied, saying: ‘Thank you xxx he’s well topped up on pain killers.’.

‘Oh no!!! Hope you are ok? Glad you are home now though looking forward to seeing you all back on gogglebox wishing you a good recovery,’ one fan, Wendy, commented. ‘Wishing you a speedy recovery Tom xx,’ follower Karen added. One person, Louise, questioned the nappy-bandage on Tom’s shoulder, writing: ‘Nappy!? I have never ever known a none sterile dressing be used as wound care on hospital!? How strange. I can see you were marked for surgery so I am guessing you had a shoulder replacement, unless it was emergency surgery. I was a surgical nurse for years and I’m totally baffled by the nappy lol.’.

Tom clarified in a comment: ‘Not a shoulder replacement, but apparently nappies are great for wound leakage.’. The Malones have been favourites on the series since their first appearance in 2014, with dad Tom Senior and mum Julie frequently joined by three of their kids: Vanessa, Tom Jr and Shaun, although Tom Jr quit the programme in February 2021, after six years. During a Gogglebox episode in 2022, Tom Sr revealed he had suffered an arm injury and wore a blue cast during filming.

‘Got to rest this a bit now Julie. Take it easy. I can’t be doing any housework or heavy lifting, they said that to me. Definitely no housework, rest my arm,’ he told his wife Julie on camera. He continued: ‘She said: “You should take it easy, make sure you get looked after,” that sort of thing.’. Julie quipped back: ‘Didn’t you tell her that you get looked after anyway, regardless of your arm? You get cups of coffee whenever you want, you get your meals brought in on a tray.’.

According to The Mirror, Tom went on to say that he was an ‘injured puppy’ and joked he ‘needed looking after’ and was going to ‘sit here and watch telly’. After Julie joked his behaviour would be no different to usual, Tom claimed the doctors urged him to make ‘lifestyle changes’.
