The Academy Awards are fast approaching with the coveted Best Picture award appearing one of the most open contests in years. Anora, The Brutalist, Emilia Perez and Nickel Boys are all said to be in the running for the biggest award of the night with no clear favourite.
Nominations were announced last month for the 97th Oscars with British stars Ralph Fiennes and Cynthia Erivo both up for acting prizes. Despite its chaotic campaign, Emilia Perez is leading the nominations with 13 while The Brutalist and Wicked both have 10.
We could therefore have a record number of wins in one night, with the current record being 11, although it’s incredibly unlikely that Emilia Perez will take 12 gongs, let alone all 13. Last year, it was Oppenheimer that swept the board, winning seven gongs, including Best Picture.
Here is how you can follow the action from Britain in 2025. The 97th Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on the night of Sunday, March 2 – which, for UK film fans, means the early hours of Monday, March 3. The broadcast will begin from 10.30pm in the UK and wrap by around 3am.
A statement added: “ITV will premiere the 97th Oscars ceremony and red carpet coverage, offering a night of exclusive free-to-air programming across both ITV1 and ITVX, along with a plethora of Oscars-themed content and added behind-the-scenes extras – making ITV the ultimate destination for all things Oscars.”.
Jonathan Ross will provide live commentary for ITV and will be joined by special guests and film industry insiders. Ross King, meanwhile, will be broadcasting directly from the event. Throughout the day, Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning, Loose Women and ITV News will all cover the latest Oscars news and build-up.
