Jamie Carragher has fired Manchester City a warning as they prepare to debut their new January signings against Chelsea. City have endured a torrid season so far by their standards, currently sitting fifth in the Premier League and on the verge of elimination in the Champions League.

After losing Rodri to an ACL injury towards the start of the season, their form has nose-dived. Recent league results have been more positive, but a 4-2 defeat by PSG on Wednesday has again raised eyebrows. It's likely Premier League sides will only have to finish in the top five of the table to reach next season's Champions League, something City will be wary of with other sides breathing down their shoulders.

They now enter a more difficult run of form, too, with Chelsea up next on Saturday and Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool next in the Premier League after that. The defending champions have added to their squad this summer, and all three of Abdukodir Khusanov, Omar Marmoush and Vitor Reis are set to be involved this weekend. Carragher, however, has reservations.

Jamie Carragher has fired Manchester City and Pep Guardiola (pictured) after they splashed out over £120million on players. Carragher wrote that the defending Premier league champions will not qualify for the Champions League if their new signings do not hit the ground running.

Abdukodir Khusanov (right), who City spent £33m on, has been brought into help their season. 'If Pep Guardiola's January signings do not hit the ground running, they will not qualify for next season's Champions League,' he wrote in his latest column for The Telegraph. 'The Premier League champions are taking the concept (of panic buying) to another level.
