THE Kansas City Chiefs have announced Travis Kelce's retirement decision after weeks of speculation. The 35-year-old has one year left on his contract, heading into the 2025 NFL season. It is understood he was considering hanging up his cleats after a Hall of Fame-bound career.

That came after the devastating 40-22 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl earlier this month. It ended the Chiefs bid for a historic three-peat, which would have been a first in league history. But the AFC West team's General Manager Brett Veach has announced he WILL be back for the 2025 campaign.

He said Kelce was “fired up” about entering the final year of his contract, and playing. “We left it as, he’d be back and we’re excited to get him back and get him going," he added. That starts at the Indianapolis Colt's Lucas Oil later this week.

It is understood Kelce had been in talks with the team, family and friends over his future for weeks. Pop sensation girlfriend Taylor Swift has been a close confidante of his. He was close to calling time on his legendary 12 year-long NFL career. But the tight end has clearly made the decision to come back, and the Chiefs are now aware of that.
That means another run at a a fourth Super Bowl ring for him. The US Sun understands that Kelce believes he can play in the NFL for another three seasons. That would require a new contract, but talks would wait into the new season. During the 2024-25 campaign, he was not up to his usual high standards in terms of stats.
He had 823 yards and just three receiving touchdowns during the regular year. Kelce had more of an impact in the playoffs, which helped Andy Reid's side to the Super Bowl. But he had another poor display at the Caesars Superdome against the Eagles. NFL fans even claimed it was his, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, worst games of their careers, so far.
