Reigning darts world champion Luke Humphries has underlined his status as a cool customer ahead of his imminent return to Alexandra Palace. That's after 'Cool Hand' smashed in a flurry of 180s despite misplacing his favourite set of darts. The champ is set to kick off his title defence on Sunday evening against either Thibault Tricole or Joe Comito.

Humphries has enjoyed a stellar 2024, extending his lead at the world rankings summit and bagging two more major titles – the World Matchplay and the Players Championship Finals crown. He's now gearing up for the big event at Ally Pally by participating in exhibitions, including one in Finland - but things didn't go quite as planned when his preferred darts went missing during the journey.

Darts icon Bobby George was at the same event and shared how Humphries' game wasn't hampered by the need to switch to new darts. Speaking to Gambling Zone (via the Daily Express), George said: "He's playing really great. I was with him last week. LOVE THE DARTS? Get your ultimate World Darts Championship preview now.

"I'll give you an example; he was in Finland and he lost his darts – his baggage got lost at the airport. So he came back with a brand-new set of darts and he said, 'I don't like playing with these', especially with the World Championship coming up.
