Dwight Yorke has urged Manchester United to give Paul Pogba another chance, insisting the midfielder is ‘far better than what we have now’ in midfield. Pogba is a free agent after mutually parting ways with Juventus last November. The France international, who left United in the summer of 2022, was handed a doping ban in February last year, with his four-year suspension cut to 18 months after the Court of Arbitration for Sport accepted his argument that he did not intentionally ingest a banned substance.

The World Cup winner is eligible to play again in March, having teased a possible return to Old Trafford last month. United’s options in midfield have been meagre for most of the season with Kobbie Mainoo sidelined until after the March international break. Manuel Ugarte has returned after a knock, scoring against Everton on Saturday.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are out of favour under Ruben Amorim with 21-year-old Toby Collyer often preferred when fit. ‘It’s an interesting take. I would give Paul Pogba a third chance, definitely, because of what United currently have and because of what we know he is capable of producing,’ Yorke told Casinobeats.com. ‘Obviously, with two months left, I would say, let’s have a look. Give him a contract. You’ve got time here to prove yourself.
‘You can come and play and help us out with the situation I’m sure Pogba would be very keen. Maybe he might want a long-term deal because of the security. ‘I can see why his name has been mentioned because United have struggled, and Pogba is a damn good player.
‘Even though he’s 31, I think he’s far better than what we have now. And if you’re going to get a player for free, who’s far better than all our players in midfield, then you do it.’. Rio Ferdinand has also urged United to at the very least invite Pogba to training to ‘have a little look’.
‘You’d like to think he would [be going somewhere]. Surely he’s got to go somewhere,’ Ferdinand told Rio Presents. ‘Pogba at United? I’d go come in and train with us and let’s see what you’ve got. I’d do that. I would’ve done that already. I’d say come in and get fit and let’s have a little look.’.
