An iconic McDonald's milkshake is making its UK debut from next month - but you don't have long to get it. The fast food chain is launching the Shamrock Shake in UK stores on Wednesday, March 12. However, it will be only available in restaurants for two weeks until March 25. The Shamrock Shake features a peppermint-flavoured syrup blended with a vanilla milkshake base. The fast food giant has yet to confirm how much the milkshake will cost, and we will update this article when we know more.

The drink was first introduced to Maccies restaurants in the US in 1970 to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Although it has been sold in both Canada and Ireland, it has never made it onto UK menus until now. McDonald's said it will also donate 20p from each sale of the drink to the Ronald McDonald House Charity. This provides free "home away from home" accommodation to families with children in hospital.

Rumours that the green shake could be coming to the UK started to circulate online over the last few days. Most recently, the Newfoodsuk Facebook page shared that the "super minty" drink was set to be added to menus. It comes after McDonald's re-launched the popular Grimace Shake in December across all its 1,450 restaurants. The blueberry-flavoured milkshake is another classic US menu item and was inspired by the Grimace mascot but only featured on menus again, for two weeks. The Shamrock Shake also has a fan-favourite mascot who has made a comeback in the US - Uncle O'Grimacey. Although, whether the fuzzy, green, McDonaldland resident will make an appearance in the UK - we don't know.
