I’ve never been one to splash huge amounts of cash on everyday appliances. Nowadays, look for any household gadget, and there’s almost always a costly product promising the world. So I was a bit sceptical when my fiancé got a Dyson Supersonic hairdryer for Christmas - slightly baffled by the £329.99 price tag . In my mind I think ‘hairdryer = about £30’, so having an appliance that cost more ten times that amount did have me questioning how on earth it could be worth the price.
But I have to say, after just one use, I was very impressed - so much so that I actually use it more than she does now. Drying your hair is one of those chores I could previously rarely be bothered with. It's, frankly, a bit boring. My hair isn’t especially long, so I’d typically just let it dry naturally after a shower, but the Dyson is so powerful and efficient I can now get it dry in no time at all. I particularly like how quickly it dries my beard, having soggy facial hair isn’t a nice feeling, but with a quick blast from the hairdryer it’s all dry in about a minute. It also does a great job of helping to style my beard, with the various heat and power settings allowing you to force it into the shape you desire. The hairdryer does come with a series of attachments to help with that though I’m yet to try them out myself.
My fiancé has long hair that always seems to grow quickly, so drying it can be a bit of a nightmare. But the time it takes is drastically reduced with the Dyson. As far as I can see, the main sticking point is the price. Sure, it’s a very impressive device, but obviously, it is significantly more expensive than standard hairdryers on the market, though it is the best I’ve ever used by some distance.
As such, you’ll clearly need to be someone with a pressing need to be able to dry your hair quickly, or regularly to justify the cost. Whether or not that’s worth £329.99 is for you to decide. The vast majority of reviewers on the Dyson website have sung its praises with an average rating of 4.6 stars out of 5. One of those said: “Bought this a month ago and really enjoy using it. It dries hair quickly and with different attachments I can have different styles. Really pleased with this purchase.”.
Another continued: “Love it. This was a present. It’s leaving my hair in much better condition and tames all those flyaway ends, using the comb end on the final finish gives style.I certainly would recommend it.”. However, one who wasn’t satisfied did note: “Good but not as good as I expected for the money. Didn't want miracles, but with all the hype, bit of a letdown was going to buy the curling brush, but not now.”.
