A NEPO-BABY with an Oscar-winning mum and movie director dad has proved the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree after carving out her own film career. On Thursday night the 23-year-old picked up Breakout Artist Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival UK & IE Honours 2025. She looked the double of her famous mum - who has a career spanning three decades - while picking up her gong. Mia Threapleton looked every inch the star in a figure-hugging strapless black gown and worked the red carpet like a pro.

It’s no surprise both acting and fancy events appear to come naturally to Mia as her mum is none other than Kate Winslet. Kate, 49, shares Mia with her film director ex-husband Jim Threapleton. The former couple met in 1997 on the set of Hideous Kinky - in which Kate starred as Julia - and went on to tie the knot in1998. However they split in 2001 - just a year after welcoming Mia. Mia’s first acting role came in 2014 when she landed a small part in period drama film A Little Chaos alongside Kate, who had the starring role of Sabine de Barra.

She later worked with her mum again in 2022 in BAFTA-winning Channel 4 drama I Am Ruth. Mia is currently starring as Honoria Marable in the Apple TV+ historical drama series The Buccaneers. Kate is of course one the most famous actors in the world and landed her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress in 1998 after her role in Titanic. And she picked up the coveted gong in 2009 after playing Hanna Schmitz in romantic drama The Reader.

While it would be hard to argue her parents’ connections haven’t opened doors for Mia, Kate previously insisted her daughter is naturally talented. Discussing working with Mia on I Am Ruth during an appearance on Lorraine, Kate said: “As far as performance, she didn't need me at all. “There are even moments where she'd look at me and go, ‘Shut up Mum, let me do it!’. “It was really amazing working alongside her and actually being blown away by her courage… she's very, very powerful.”.
