World champion boxer Teofimo Lopez is reportedly close to agreeing a historic deal to fight on Alcatraz Island. The notorious former prison, known as 'The Rock', sits in San Francisco bay and is now home to a popular museum about the jailhouse. But Saudi boxing boss Turki Alalshikh recently claimed he wants to host a boxing fight at Alcatraz, with Lopez now slated to fight there this summer. According to Ring, the junior welterweight champion will headline a card in June or July on the island - which sits more than a mile off the coast of San Francisco.

The Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary was opened back in 1934 and has remained infamous even after it closed three decades later. Al Capone and George 'Machine-Gun' Kelly were among the high-profile criminals to serve time on the island. The prison was considered virtually escape-proof, given its distance from the shore. But many break-outs were attempted, with one turned into a film starring Clint Eastwood.

The Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary was opened in 1934 and has remained infamous to this day. 'Escape from Alcatraz' told the story of Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin. In June 1962, they built papier-mache heads made from toilet paper, soap, paint and real hair gathered from the jail barber.

They left three matching escape tunnels, carved with spoons and forks — and a drill made out of a broken Hoover — through the back walls of their cells. It remains a mystery whether they ever made it to the shore, though the three were listed as ‘missing and presumed drowned’. Alalshikh has also floated the possibility of hosting fights in other famous landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower. 'What do you think if there is (an) event (or) fight in Alcatraz jail one day?,' Alalshikh recently told ESPN. 'It is like a museum now. You know, sometimes I get in my mind I want different places to do (fights).
