Liam Cameron is adamant he will finish the job he started when he steps in the ring with Olympic silver medalist Ben Whittaker for the second time on April 20. Cameron and Whittaker went toe-to-toe in Saudi Arabia in October, with the latter heavily favoured to extend his winning streak in the professional ranks. But it was Cameron who began to get on top after a slow start before a freak incident at the end of the fifth round brought the fight to an abrupt end.

After engaging in a clinch, Cameron and Whittaker both toppled over the top rope and landed heavily on the canvas. Cameron was willing to continue, but Whittaker complained of issues with his neck and ankle and the contest was waved off, with the judges subsequently scoring the bout a technical draw. There were immediately calls for a rematch, while Whittaker was also accused of quitting. The first fight between Liam Cameron and Ben Whittaker ended in freak circumstances after both men toppled over the top rope.

Whittaker said he was unable to continue after falling heavily, but Cameron thinks he quit. The pair are now set for a rematch in April, and Cameron has already delivered a brutal jibe by calling his opponent a 'quitter'. Cameron shares that view, and believes he will settle the score once and for all after their rematch in Birmingham was announced on Thursday. 'He quit,' Cameron told Mail Sport. 'He was too tired.'.

Asked if the ending to the first fight could have an impact on the rematch, Cameron brutally added: 'Once a quitter, always a quitter'. Whittaker has split opinion with his showboating antics since moving over to the professional game after winning silver at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Whittaker's bravado did not appear to faze Cameron at all, though, back in October, as he piled on the pressure round by round.

Cameron feels he exposed Whittaker's shortcomings, and has backed himself to produce a conclusive finish in the rematch by sticking to the same gameplan. Reflecting on how the first fight played out, Cameron said: 'He couldn't do what he had to do. I didn't let him do that. It wasn't because he was terrible, I just didn't let him do it. Asked how he planned to approach the rematch, Cameron replied: 'Exactly the same. Put it on him.'.
