During their visit, the pair joined in with a traditional ceremony, where Prince Harry had a drum and Meghan had clappers as they played music and children danced around them. A Squamish spokesperson Wilson Williams revealed the moment was 'special' for the community and it 'righted the wrongs of the past' when King George VI and Queen Elizabeth didn't show up to meet the community during their 1939 tour of Canada.

Speaking to Town & Country he said: 'Squamish Nation were advised that the royal family would stop, so Chief Capilano’s son carved two totem poles, and they built an arch over Marine Drive. 'Our people had a bunch of gifts—when people come and visit, we gift them. It was heartbreaking for our people.

Wilson told Harry and Meghan the story and claimed they 'broke a lot of barriers' during the visit. He added: 'We live in a spirit of reconciliation—we're living it right now. We broke a lot of barriers. We cleared a big path for our Indigenous people to say: ''Hey, this is righting a wrong. We want to meet these people.’'.

A powerful performance from 90 students from the Capilano Little Ones School concluded the visit. The Squamish Nation gifted the couple the Squamish language dictionary, the nation’s history book and a children’s book in the language to read to their children Lilibet, three, and Archie, five, when they go back home.

It comes after Meghan gushed about being let onto 'sacred land' as she uploaded several pictures and videos that showed people dancing in traditional Indigenous dress. In one snap, the couple could be seen clapping in awe as a group holding instruments performed in front of them.

The mother-of-two then added overlaid text that read: 'Thank you for welcoming us onto your sacred land.'. In another video shared to her stories, Meghan tagged The Chief Joe Mathias Centre in North Vancouver, BC, which is stated online as a center which 'serves as a community hub for cultural and educational events.'.

It provides a space for gatherings, workshops, and programs that aim to celebrate and preserve Indigenous traditions and knowledge. In an adorable video Prince Harry is seen playing on the floor with a baby as they sing an Indigenous song and clap their hands.

This year's games, which celebrates service men and women who put their lives on the line for their nations, included winter sports for the first time ever. Meghan's attendance was understood to underscore her support for her husband and the mission of Invictus, a cause that is deeply personal to them both.
