A RUGBY League player has fled the UK after being charged with rape and a string of sex offences against a woman. Keven Appo was due to appear at Bradford Magistrates' Court today but has returned to his native Papua New Guinea. An extradition process is now underway to return the Bradford Bulls player, whose contract has been terminated, to Britain.

The court heard Appo, 25, was granted conditional bail on November 26 following the charge but left the country just under five hours later. He allegedly first boarded a flight from Manchester to Dubai before travelling to Papua New Guinea. UK authorities are now working with police in the country to bring Appo back to face court, JPs heard.

The forward has been charged with rape, sexual assault and two counts of assault against a woman. Appo plays internationally for Papua New Guinea and represented the team in the 2022 Rugby League World Cup. He also made 61 appearances for the Bradford Bulls after joining the Rugby League club two years ago.

He signed a new two-year deal in August but this has since been ripped up. The Bulls said : "Following today's West Yorkshire Police statement, the Bradford Bulls have cancelled Keven Appo's playing contract. "Given the circumstances, the club is duty bound to make no further comment at this stage.
