As Santa gets ready to shimmy down chimneys, people around the globe are putting the final touches on their Christmas trees. The festive firs have become a staple of the holiday season, as joyful families come together to decorate their trees each year.

And, many holiday lovers have Oregon and North Carolina to thank for their sparkling trees. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, Christmas trees are grown on 16,000 farms across the country. The Census of Agriculture revealed that the US chopped over 14.5 million trees in 2022 alone.

Half of the trees cut in 2022 were grown in two states: Oregon and North Carolina. The states boast prime growing conditions as they famously produce Noble, Douglas and Fraser trees. Oregon grows over 4.7 million trees each year, which is about 33 percent of all Christmas trees produced across the US.

Meanwhile, North Carolina is not too far behind, producing close to four million trees annually. Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Washington are also in the top growing bracket. Michigan produces over two million Christmas trees annually, according to the Michigan Agricultural Council.
