Sir Tom Jones is undoubtedly one of Wales' most iconic music legends. Born in Pontypridd, the singer rose to fame in the 1960s and has been dazzling audiences worldwide with his remarkable voice for decades. Along the way, he's had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with numerous A-list celebrities, including the one and only Elvis Presley. Sir Tom Jones, now 84, often fondly recalls his encounters with Elvis, and a particular interview with Conan O'Brien has resurfaced on TikTok, leaving some viewers questioning its validity.
In the clip, Sir Tom shares a bizarre anecdote about the time he and Elvis ended up "naked" together in a bathroom. The tale begins with Elvis wanting to share a song with Sir Tom while he was on tour, but he needed to take a shower first. As Sir Tom had a wash, he could hear Elvis singing. Sir Tom recounted: "But he was singing all the time. So then, when I got out of the shower, I realised he'd been to the toilet. Yes, in my bathroom while I was in the shower.
"You know he was, whatever. So he was wearing a north beach leather outfit. We used to, a lot of us used to wear them. They were just natural leather. "So he was standing there cleaning, and looking in the mirror. Anyway, I'm naked and he's half-naked. Yeah, his pants are down around his legs. "So he's standing and singing this song to me, right? I'm trying to towel down and Elvis is singing and I'm, you know, toweling down.".
Sir Tom then recounted how he pointed out to Elvis that his trousers were around his ankles, prompting him to call for his bodyguard. The bodyguard, known as "Red", burst into the room ready for action, only to hear Elvis say: "My pants man, my pants.". It turns out the leather outfits were so snug that Elvis often needed assistance to pull them back up. This anecdote clearly tickles Sir Tom every time he recalls it, for its sheer comedic value.
Since being shared, the video has racked up hundreds of views and left viewers in stitches. While some questioned the veracity of the tale, Sir Tom assured them it was all true. One person commented: "Wow - that's a story!" Another exclaimed: "That was brilliant.". A third praised: "From one legend to another legend."
