Travis Kelce tried to hold off the tears as he walked back to the Kansas City dressing room after a horrific showing in the Super Bowl. His Chiefs outfit were eyeing history with a third successive Super Bowl victory on their radar - but they were humbled by the Philadelphia Eagles. The NFC champions secured a 40-22 victory as Taylor Swift watched her boyfriend produced a sub par performance. The 35-year-old tight end was largely ineffective in a Kansas attack that never clicked into gear. Questions will now be asked about whether Kelce continues to play following the loss.

He spoke briefly to reporters in the locker room and then headed up to the suite where Swift and his family watched the game. The pop icon was continuously booed in New Orleans whenever she appeared on the big screen - which didn't seem to impress the singer as the cameras focused on her several times. Kelce said after the devastating loss: "Hats off to the Eagles, man. We couldn't get it going offensively. We just couldn't find that spark, couldn't find that momentum.".

Despite trailing 24-0 at half-time the tight end claimed he and the Chiefs were confident they could overcome the deficit, but the Eagles defence proved too tough for them. He said: "100% believed. Never lose doubt. This team is going to fight to the end forever. I think there was a lot of things going wrong. Everything was not really going our way today. You don't lose like that without everything going bad. We haven't played that bad all year.".

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes made it clear that he wants his 35-year-old team-mate to return. He said: "I'll let Travis make that decision on his own. He's given so much to this team and to the NFL and been such a joy, not only for me to work with but for people to watch. He knows he still has a lot of football left in him. You can see it. He always makes plays in the biggest moments. "But it's if he wants to put in that grind 'cause it's a grind to go out there and play 20 games, whatever it is, and get to the Super Bowl. He's done enough to be a gold jacket guy and a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but I know he's still got a love for the game. He'll get to spend some time with his family and make that decision on his own.
