Actor Waymond Lee has died aged 72. The Workaholics star, who played Waymond (Old Way Way) in the show alongside the likes of Adam DeVine, Anders Holm, Blake Anderson and Jillian Bell, has died after complications from ALS, which is also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

As reported by TMZ, his sister Norine Lee and wife Diane told the outlet that he died on December 18. It’s said Lee was first diagnosed with a degenerative brain disease two months ago, but earlier this month more tests confirmed he had ALS. ALS is a neurological disorder which impacts nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain.

He returned home for just over a week, before going to hospital after struggling with his breathing and swallowing, and he remained there for less than a week before his death. His family hailed him as ‘soft-hearted’ and a ‘sentimental person’.

Lee’s other credits included roles in Everything Everywhere All At Once, Zombie Apocalypse, Other People, Veep, The Cleaning Lady and Thundermans. His Workaholics co-star Adam DeVine – who also co-created the sitcom – admitted the news has hit him ‘like a brick to the face’.

He wrote in an emotional Instagram post: ‘Rest in peace Waymond Lee. I am gutted. He was such a kind man. ‘My deepest condolences go out to his wife Diane and the rest of his family.’. DeVine praised Lee for his commitment to the show, and described him as a ‘true professional’.
