Cooking bacon might seem straightforward, but all too often it ends up overdone and dry instead of perfectly crispy. The go-to methods for rustling up this breakfast favourite usually involve frying in oil, baking in the oven, or popping in an air fryer.
While pan-frying can give you top-notch results, it's not always the healthiest choice, not to mention the beastly clean-up task that follows. For those seeking a quicker, hassle-free alternative, TikTok sensation Erin Meck, known for her healthy culinary creations on her page @erinnnmeck, has revealed her game-changing method for whipping up "crispy bacon" that she absolutely "loves".
"This blew my mind when I first learned this. Love this method for a single serving of bacon or if you just want it quick," enthuses Erin. "Cooking times depend on your microwave, how thick your bacon is and how many pieces you're cooking at once.". Erin champions the microwave as her secret weapon for bacon that's "quicker, less messy and it still turns out crispy". Her tip? "Just lay your bacon on a plate. Cover and cook for about two and a half to three minutes." She stresses the importance of covering the bacon with another plate to both speed up cooking and keep your microwave free from greasy splatters. It's also important to keep a watchful eye on your bacon as it nears the end of its zap time to dodge any chance of charring.
The cooking process will continue for a few seconds even after the microwave has stopped. Once it's done, carefully take out the plate from the microwave and use tongs to move the bacon onto your plate. After placing three slices of streaky bacon on a paper plate and covering it with another, Erin demonstrated her results to viewers, revealing a perfectly crispy piece of bacon that wasn't burnt.
