A foodie has shared the one type of fruit you should add to your breakfast to boost gut health – stewed apples. Carleigh Bodrug, a plant cookery content creator behind the @plantyou account, has revealed the breakfast bowl she likes to whip up in just 15 minutes. All you need is apples, vanilla, coconut sugar, cinnamon, apple cider vinegar, corn starch and maple syrup.

So why is it so good for you? Apples are rich in vitamins (such as vitamin C), minerals, and dietary fiber, particularly pectin. Stewing apples breaks them down, which may make these nutrients more accessible. Carleigh explained: "Not only are stewed apples easier to digest when you cook them, they create something called pectin. This is a type of soluble fibre which acts as a prebiotic feeding the beneficial bacteria in your gut.".

Chop the apples before adding them to a saucepan with the maple syrup, cornstarch, apple cider vinegar, vanilla extract, coconut sugar, and cinnamon. Stir all this together over a medium heat for 15 minutes. You can tell the apples are done when they are slightly gooey and soft.

Serve the apples warm with oatmeal and optional extra toppings. Serve it cold as a filling for an apple-themed dessert. People seem to be loving the recipe – and many took to the comments section on TikTok to leave their thoughts. One user wrote: "I make them without all the sugar. Just a tiny bit of water in the pot with the apples so they cook a bit without burning. I did a bit of cinnamon and nothing else. So good.".
