Amazon Prime ends ‘lifesaver’ perk in major blow to customers

Shoppers are disappointed after Amazon announced the end of its popular ‘try before you buy’ scheme. From same-day delivery to being the go-to online store for pretty much anything, the retail giant has a loyal customer base. In particular, those who sign up to Prime can get a range of privileges, including exclusive discounts and Prime Video.
The ‘try before you buy’ benefit allowed Prime members to try on clothing items, shoes and accessories at home before completing a purchase, paying only for what is kept. Customers could order six items, which they then had seven days to return without being charged.
But now, Amazon will be axing the service, claiming that advancements in AI and improved sizing recommendations mean it is no longer needed. ‘Given the combination of Try Before You Buy only scaling to a limited number of items and customers increasingly using our new AI-powered features like virtual try-on, personalized size recommendations, review highlights, and improved size charts to make sure they find the right fit, we’re phasing out the Try Before You Buy option,’ the spokesperson said.
Amazon customers were sad to hear the news, taking to social media to vent their frustrations. ‘Nooooo, I loved this!’ wrote one X user, while another lamented: ‘RIP Prime Wardrobe – we had a good run.’. Another called the service ‘a lifesaver,’ adding that they’ll be ‘sticking to reviews more carefully now’.
