Fans of a highly-rated Amazon Prime show have admitted taking the entire day off work as a new season arrived on the platform today (February 6). Animated series Invincible tells the story of teenager Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun) who lives in the shadow of his father - the world's most powerful superhero, Omni-Man (J.K Simmons). Mark starts to get powers of his own and discovers that his father may not be quite as clean-cut as he first appears.
The show's glittering voice cast also includes Star Wars legend Mark Hamill as Art Rosebaum; Seth Rogan as Allen the Alien; Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson and Fallout's Walter Goggins as Cecil Steadman. Invincible - adapted from Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman's comic book series - is now in its third season with work on a fourth already underway. The first three episodes of season three were made available to watch on Thursday, February 6, with the remaining episodes dropping weekly.
Season three will feature a time jump and viewers will join Mark's character at the age of 19. Meanwhile co-showrunner Simon Racioppa told SFX more about what fans could expect, teasing: "Mark's going to face different challenges, so he's not going to be the same person that he was in season two. And at the end of season three, I can promise you, he's not the same person he was at the start of season three.".
Invincible enjoys a rare close-to-perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating, currently sitting at an impressive 99 per cent from critics across all its seasons. It scored slightly lower among audiences with 88 per cent. Fans have been counting down the days to the third season's release. One eager fan admitted they "took a day off work for this," along with two laughing emojis. "Doing a rewatch marathon right now and man the animation has come a long way," another viewer noted.
Many were left grumbling about Prime's release schedule though, with the weekly wait proving difficult for die-hard fans. "Worst release schedule of all time - lesson in how to kill all hype and momentum," said one. "Just waiting for the whole season to end. Then I watch," said another.
