Netflix is gearing up to release another 'true-story' series and viewers are in for a wild ride. The upcoming Australian drama was helmed by Nine Perfect Strangers creator Samantha Strauss, who was living in Melbourne at the time of the real-life events that inspired the show.

The tattle-tale story follows the rise and fall of a wellness scam that took social media by storm in the early 2010s. It is based on the true crime novel, The Woman Who Fooled the World, written by journalists Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano. Summarising the crux of the forthcoming show, creator Strauss said: "It’s really interesting to look at how media uses food as a weapon against us and how much we crave the nourishment, but how much of a privilege and how expensive it is to try to be well.".

With the limited series set to land on Netflix next month, here is everything you need to know before tuning in. Apple Cider Vinegar follows Belle Gibson, an influencer who built an online business and social media following on fraudulent claims that she had cured debilitating health issues by adopting a healthy diet and using holistic medicines.

The Australian influencer went as far as claiming she had cured her terminal brain cancer, which had left her with months to live. As well as a growing social media following, she developed a mobile app and its companion cookbook that were supposed to help others reach peak health.
