Arne Slot has assured Liverpool fans that the club are working on summer recruitment targets. The Dutchman's tenure thus far has exceeded the expectations of even the most optimistic Reds supporter. Slot had the unenviable task of following club legend Jurgen Klopp but has guided the team to the top of the Premier League, the League Cup semi-final and a perfect record in the Champions League.
Even more remarkably, this has been achieved without any meaningful investment into the squad. The club made two additions last summer, bringing in Federico Chiesa, who has largely been absent due to injury and Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will not join the squad until next term.
Mindful of this fact, and perhaps the uncertainty that remains over the future of three of the side's best players, Slot has insisted that the club are working on options that would strengthen his already impressive squad. 'Liverpool should always be competing for a league title,' he told the BBC. 'We should always be competing for the Champions League. I'm hoping I will be able to keep the club at that level.
'I know people sometimes question this because they haven't seen us doing a lot in the transfer market in the summer and now in the winter as well. There's a reason for that - because we're happy with the squad. Arne Slot has assured Liverpool fans that the club are working on targets to improve the squad in the summer window.
