Summary at a Glance

Australia crush Sri Lanka in second Test to complete rare series sweep Australia have capped off a brilliant summer with a nine-wicket defeat of Sri Lanka that confirms their first clean sweep of a subcontinent Test series in almost 20 years.

The triumph completes Australia’s dominant summer, which began with a first Test series defeat of India in a decade, and finished with a first series win in Sri Lanka since 2011.

The 2-0 whitewash marked Australia’s first Test series win in Sri Lanka since 2011 and their first time winning every match on a subcontinent visit since touring Bangladesh in 2006.

Sri Lanka (257, 231) challenged Australia (414, 75-1) more than in the first Test – their biggest Test loss in history – but a 259-run partnership between Alex Carey (156) and Smith (131) across the second and third days proved the difference.

Chasing just 75 runs in sunny Galle on Sunday, Australia (75-1) secured victory in the second Test and two-match series when Marnus Labuschagne (26 not out) hit the winning run to square leg just before lunch on day four.
