Swimmers are being offered a unique opportunity to experience Cornwall's iconic Jubilee Pool in a whole new light with two very special night swimming events. The Penzance lido is planning full moon events over the next couple of months, where attendees can warm up around a fire pit after their swim. One of the largest and most beautiful seawater pools in the UK, the triangular pool opened in 1935 to commemorate King George V’s Silver Jubilee. Sitting on the edge of Mount’s Bay, its offers stunning coastal views.
Organisers for the full moon events describe them as a chance to "immerse yourself in a sensory experience of nature and the outdoors," with the cosy feeling of warming up after a chilly dip. Swimmers are encouraged to wear bright swim hats and will be provided with a safety light on the night. READ MORE: The 'cool' UK city named as one of the most affordable for couples to visit. Wetsuits can also be worn if preferred, but you'll need to bring your own. The organisers add: "Night swims offer an ideal chance to immerse yourself in a sensory experience of nature and the outdoors. The moon signals changing of the seasons and gives us a space to reflect on recent experiences and look ahead for resetting and refreshing.".
The full moon swim will take place in the main seawater pool at Jubilee Pool, built on a traditional bathing spot at the Battery Rocks near Penzance Harbour. The facility also boasts the UK's only geothermally-heated lido, a naturally heated sea pool that reaches temperatures between 28 and 30 degrees. The geothermal pool is currently closed for winter and is due to reopen at Easter, reports Cornwall Live.
