Ozzy’s wife Sharon Osbourne and Tony made the announcement at the home of Aston Villa football club on Wednesday February 5. The show – called Back to the Beginning – will also feature sets from Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice In Chains, Lamb Of God, Anthrax and Mastodon. Taking place all day, the heavy metal festival will also feature a supergroup of musicians including Billy Corgan from The Smashing Pumpkins, Duff McKagan and Slash from Guns ‘n Roses, Frank Durst from Limp Bizkit, Mike Bordin from Faith No More, and Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine.

The all-star event will see rock icon Ozzy play his own short set before joining with Black Sabbath for his final bow. ‘It’s my time to go Back to the Beginning….time for me to give back to the place where I was born,’ Ozzy said. ‘How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. ‘Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever.’. Black Sabbath formed in 1968 and became one of the most genre-defining and successful metal bands of all time. They have sold over 75 million albums worldwide.

All profits from the event will go to Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and lastly Acorn Children’s Hospice, a Children’s Hospice supported by Aston Villa. This joyous announcement comes after Ozzy has endured an awful few years of health problems, including a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis in 2003. So much so, in February 2023 he was forced to cancel his UK and Europe tour. In a heartfelt statement, he explained that he never imagined his ‘touring days would have ended this way’.

‘This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans. As you may all know, four years ago, this month, I had a major accident, where I damaged my spine,’ he began. ‘My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage. My singing voice is fine. ‘However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak.’.

He added that he was not physically capable to do his European and UK tours, as he couldn’t deal with the travel. However, Sharon promised that Ozzy was planning to say goodbye to his fans properly – and it looks like she’s kept her word. ‘He won’t tour again but we are planning on doing two more shows to say goodbye as he feels like, “I have never said goodbye to my fans and I want to say goodbye properly,”‘ Sharon told The Mirror, adding: ‘We will do it in Aston Villa where Ozzy is from.’.

Sharon explained how despite his break from rock ‘n’ roll Ozzy’s voice remains ‘absolutely perfect’ as he still does singing lessons.
