Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed in his home in the early hours of Thursday morning. The icon, 54, was rushed into surgery following the attack and is now in a stable condition, his team has said. The incident occurred in an upscale area of Mumbai city, where Khan lives with his family. He’s married to Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan and the couple have two children.
City police told BBC Marathi that the attack was carried out by an unidentified man who entered the family’s home sometime in the early hours. Khan was taken to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital where he underwent surgery. Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s chief operating officer, told BBC Marathi that Khan’s stab wounds numbered six in total, and two of them were deep.
A ‘scuffle’ broke out, leading to Khan sustaining knife wounds. Police have now formed teams to investigate the matter. ‘Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress,’ Khan’s team said in a statement.
The actor’s team did not go into any details about the incident, but did say it was an ‘attempted burglary.’. ‘We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter,’ they said. Khan has been a beloved actor in Bollywood since his debut in 1993. He primarily works in Hindi cinema and often plays comedic roles, his quick wit making him one of the most recognisable faces in the industry.
