The study revealed that during the holiday season, people drive an average of 193 miles, spending seven hours and 47 minutes in the car, with two stops for refuelling - and this year a third of Brits intend to car share to save some money.
Chris Rea’s Driving Home for Christmas ranked as the second most popular festive driving song, just behind Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl.
A poll of 2,000 adults who celebrate the holiday season found that 35% will need to travel by car to get to their festive plans — half of them accompanied by their pet as a passenger.
Marc Pell, managing director at temporary motor insurance company Tempcover, which commissioned the research, said: “There’s a real joy in driving home for Christmas.
