A cancer patient has revealed why you should never use the same bathroom as a person going through chemotherapy - warning it could have devastating consequences. Misty Myers, 42, has been sharing her journey battling stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer on TikTok, recently revealing her eye-opening insight into how the treatment can impact other people in the household.
'It is recommended that the person receiving treatment use a separate toilet from everyone else in the house,' Misty, who is a mother of eight, said in the video. If it's not possible to use a different toilet, Misty said it's recommended that the toilet is flushed three times with the lid down after use, and that it's thoroughly cleaned immediately.
She explained that when anyone uses the toilet and does not close the lid, the water can spray up and become airborne as well as landing on other surfaces of the bathroom. Misty added the exposure to the chemicals used for cancer treatments in this way can be dangerous for those who aren't cancer patients.
'You could end up with dizziness, rash, nausea, vomiting, skin conditions - all types of side effects,' she listed. Misty also shared some long term effects, including an increased probability of being diagnosed with cancer later in life and problems with fertility.
