Her 2023 debut album, The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess, had a slow rise to number one in the UK chart, before becoming a chart-topper in 2024, catapulting her to fame. Some of the most popular songs on the album include Hot To Go!, Red Wine Supernova, and Good Luck, Babe!, which peaked at number two in the UK singles chart in August.

Roan, who has attracted fans such as Beyonce, Adele and Sir Elton, topped off a successful 2024 by winning the new artist gong at the Billboard Music Awards in December and is billed to headline Reading and Leeds festivals this August. She has previously spoken out against the “predatory behaviour” towards her by fans admitting she feels “scared and tired” in a social media post detailing the pressures of fame.

The rest of Radio 1’s Sound of 2025 top five is comprised of jazz quintet Ezra Collective, electronic music producer Barry Can’t Swim, singer-songwriter Myles Smith, and rock band English Teacher – who won the 2024 Mercury Prize award. The radio station’s longlist includes West Belfast Irish rap group Kneecap, US rapper Doechii, and musical band Good Neighbours.
