Christmas songs start playing in every supermarket and store the moment Halloween ends, with the same few famous ones making it on everyone's playlists. Many are used to hearing the classic tracks from Slade, Wizzard, Mariah Carey, Michael Buble and even the Rat Pack. Rarely do we hear more modern versions of festive tracks. It's impossible to say exactly how much Mariah makes for All I Want For Christmas Is You and how much The Pogues pocket for Fairytale of New York.

The Performing Right Society (PRS) does not share the figures in the interest of protecting its members’ privacy. However, Channel 5 did some research in 2016 in an attempt to find out how much money celebrities, including Paul McCartney and Wham!, make from their festive bops.

According to the research, the top earner is Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody which brings in £1million in royalties every year. Meanwhile, Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl earns £400,000 per year. The full list of earnings have been listed below:.

Slade's Noddy Holder and Jim Lea could be taking home a whopping £500,000 each for the royalties of a song that was originally released in 1973. It was the band's sixth and final number-one single in the UK. Speaking to the BBC, Noddy once said: "It is definitely a pension plan, yes.

“It was never designed to be that way but it has taken on a life of its own, definitely... It’s been used for adverts, it’s been used in movies, it’s been used for all sorts of things.” Meanwhile, Mariah is celebrating the 30th anniversary since All I Want For Christmas Is You came out.
