Eamonn Holmes, 65, has faced criticism for his remarks about beavers during a live broadcast, this morning on GB News. While discussing the benefits of beavers in natural flood prevention, co-host Ellie Costello highlighted their role in building natural upstream defenses that slow water down, thereby reducing downstream flooding.
Eamonn responded dismissively, muttering: "Really? Wow, whatever." When co-star Darren Grimes inquired about his apparent dislike for beavers, Eamonn retorted: "It's not that I don't like beavers. Look, we haven't had beavers in this country for a hundred years. Does it make a darn bit of difference to your life? No. This makes no difference to your life so why are you interrupting me?".
Darren pestered: “I was just asking, I didn’t know that you didn’t like beavers,” to which Eamonn responded: “I never said I didn’t like beavers.” This triggered Darren to say: "I’ve obviously hit a nerve though, haven’t I?". Eamonn further remarked: "I just don't see the point of them. According to a report I watched, they are the size of a labrador dog." These comments sparked backlash from viewers, with some expressing surprise at Eamonn's 'negative' stance on the animals.
One user took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and wrote: “Check your facts with the beavers, they are being introduced back into this country and can help solve flooding problems! We used to have beavers here, but as usual the human idiots killed them all off!” Whilst another quipped: "Is it your time of the month Eamonn, you seem very tetchy this morning!!” A third penned: "Sorry Eamonn has passed his sell by date, Mr angry!".
