Father of the Bride director Charles Shyer dead at 83: 'His loss leaves an unfillable hole in our lives' Father of the Bride director Charles Shyer, best known for penning the Oscar-nominated Private Benjamin alongside Nancy Meyers, died at age 82 on Friday.
'It’s with an indescribably heavy heart that we share the news of our beloved father, Charles Shyer’s passing,' his loved ones said.
Shyer is survived by his daughters Hallie Meyers-Shyer, 37, Annie Meyers-Shyer, 44, and Sophia Shyer, 18, and son Jacob, 18.
'His loss leaves an unfillable hole in our lives, but his legacy lives on through his children and the five decades of wonderful work he’s left behind.
During his career, he also received critical acclaim for directing Baby Boom, starring Diane Keaton, Father of the Bride and Irreconcilable Differences.
