Eight million pints of Guinness would usually be supped in Britain on New Year's Eve in pubs and homes, trends show. It comes after The Sun on Sunday revealed brewer Diageo warned they could run out of supplies of draught Guinness to UK pubs. Andrew Williams, who found empty shelves at Tesco in St Helens, Merseyside, wrote on X: “Hope no one is expecting any Guinness.”.

Black stuff fan account Pints O’Guinness replied: “Idiots are stockpiling.”. Stephen Clews, who found the Guinness section bare at a Tesco in Stoke-on-Trent, said: “Every can and bottle of Guinness were gone.”. Diageo said supermarkets and off-licences had seen a 22 per cent rise in Guinness can and bottle sales.
