Former England batter moves to Dubai after attacks on family home as World Cup winner gives up county captaincy to start new life

One of England's 2019 World Cup winners is ending his 10-year stint as county captain to move to Dubai after several attacks on his family home. Mail Sport reported last month that the 33-year-old was leaving the UK for the United Arab Emirates after the 'unnerving' attacks and, at that stage, he looked set to become a frequent flyer for County Championship matches.
But the 3,500-mile commute has proved unrealistic and, on Wednesday, his county confirmed that he would be standing down as County Championship skipper. It is a massive blow for his county as he has been their leading run-scorer in the Championship for the past four seasons. He will, however, continue play white-ball cricket and skipper his side in the 2025 Vitality Blast. He is also expected to feature in The Hundred.
James Vince has taken the decision, which surely ends a red-ball career that includes 13 Test matches, after his Hampshire home was attacked twice last year. Last spring, Vince revealed that he 'woke suddenly to a load of smashing and alarms going off'. He said that he had 'no idea' what was happening during the 'very unnerving' attack. 'We rushed straight to get the kids to make sure they were safe. They were very shaken up.'.
