FTSE 100 Live 22 January: China stocks fall on tariff threat, easyJet posts update

Donald Trump’s threat of a 10% tariff on goods imported from China today led to weaker sessions for the Shanghai Composite and the Hang Seng index. The benchmarks have fallen 0.9% and 1.8% respectively, while the Nikkei 225 is up by 1.6% after last night’s positive Wall Street session.
The S&P 500 index rose 0.9% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average by 1.2% as investors reacted to the first policy announcements of the Trump administration. Netflix shares rose 14% in after-hours trading, having reported record subscriber growth and fourth quarter revenues ahead of Wall Street hopes.
