Orchids, beloved for their long-lasting blooms, don't have to end up in the bin once they've lost their flowers. One green-fingered woman took to social media to reveal her astonishing trick to get an orchid to blossom again and keep it blooming for years. On the Gardening UK Facebook page, horticulture enthusiasts were all ears as Katherine Reader disclosed her weekly ritual: "My mum gave me this orchid and it was in the reduced section at Tesco.".

She added: "It had one blue flower on it and then it fell off and I thought well that's the end of that." Katherine didn't give up; she shared: "I've been putting an ice cube in the bottom once a week and it's turned out bloody fantastic with new different coloured flowers. As you can see it's flowering like crazy.".

The use of ice cubes for hydrating orchids has been endorsed by some gardening maestros who view it as the perfect solution for those inclined to over-service their indoor plants with water, reports the Express. The logic is unambiguous the gradual thaw of the ice cubes ensures a steady and adequate absorption of moisture by the plant's medium and roots, safeguarding just the right degree of dampness essential for the orchid's well-being.

This innovative approach received validation from orchid specialists at Just Add Ice, advising: "Continue to water your orchid with three ice cubes once a week.". They continue to guide based on the size of the plant: "If you have a petite orchid, use two cubes, and for a mini orchid use one." Flower enthusiasts are at odds over a unique watering method: using ice cubes for potted plants. Debate has sparked on social media where gardeners share their tricks and tips.
