Princess Beatrice mysteriously pulled out of a World Economic Forum summit last week - as she'd already given birth. The royal, 36, was due to join Chancellor Rachel Reeves at the event in Davos in Switzerland between January 20 and 24 - and has been a regular guest over the years.
Buckingham Palace announced today that the princess welcomed her second daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose, with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on January 22 at 12.57pm - explaining her absence from the economic event. The eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson had been tipped by The Times to talk on a panel looking at how private capital sovereign wealth funds can be used to tackle climate change.
However Beatrice did not end up attending the event, understood at the time to be down to medical advice about not travelling abroad. Though no official reason for her absence was given last week, it can now be revealed that Beatrice gave birth to her second daughter, Athena Elizabeth, that Wednesday, at the same time the conference was taking place.
The newborn, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, was born several weeks early and is 11th in line to the throne, pushing her aunt Princess Eugenie down to 12th place. She becomes the third child in the Mapelli Mozzi brood alongside Wolfie, eight, from Edo's first marriage to Dara Huang, and Beatrice's three-year-old daughter Sienna.
