I've always been somewhat intrigued by monster trucks and their fanbase, despite my lack of knowledge on the subject. My exposure to these gargantuan vehicles has been limited to television adverts and the occasional show. So, when I received an invitation to Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live Glow-N-Fire, my curiosity was piqued. I was unaware that monster trucks were a thing in the UK, let alone that they could be viewed at indoor shows or that they were popular enough to warrant performances at The O2.

Nevertheless, off to The O2 we went, making a pit stop at the immensely enjoyable Toca Social. Prior to this, my visits to the O2 had been confined to wandering around the outlet concourse and admiring the colourful displays in the Le Creuset and Lindt shops.

The O2 is a bit like the TARDIS, packing an entire concert bowl on multiple levels behind its fashion outlets and restaurants. The seats were surprisingly comfy for such an institution, and getting in was much simpler and more straightforward than at most football grounds I've been to.

Although the Hot Wheels show was scheduled to kick off at 6.30pm, the fun started a good hour earlier. And by fun, I mean the presenters in multicoloured LED onesies really made it feel like a party, reports MyLondon. The Hot Wheels monster trucks are clearly aimed at kids, with cartoons playing on the central screens and the crowd being encouraged to do shark movements for one of the crowd favourites, TigerShark. But when the lights go down, it gets a lot more grown-up.
