A young adventurer stumbled upon a remarkable sight in the Scottish wilderness, leaving him astonished and eager to share his discovery online. Tom Prout, a solo traveler in his 20s, has a passion for exploring the UK in his van and documenting his experiences on TikTok. During a recent trip to the Cairngorms National Park in Aberdeenshire, he found Prince Albert's Cairn, a large pyramid. In a TikTok video, Tom exclaimed: "So for anyone that thinks you have to leave the UK and fly to Egypt to find pyramids, let me tell you you don't because today I'm currently in Scotland in the Cairngorms National Park going to find one. And I'm gonna show you guys exactly where it is.".
Until a week prior, Tom was unaware of the existence of a pyramid in the UK, but upon learning of it, he quickly drove to Crathie Car Park, AB35 5TL. Wearing his hiking gear, Tom embarked on a 30-minute hike along a "very accessible path.". Starting from the car park, he crossed the bridge, followed the round road to the left, and then took the road up, eventually reaching the Cairns Walk sign, which marked the "exact trail you want to follow to reach the pyramid of the UK." Tom, while hiking down the trail, found himself surrounded by a "beautiful woodland filled with pine trees", feeling as if he was "living out a movie scene" with the sunlight filtering through the trees.
The path eventually led him to an astonishing discovery – a pyramid in the UK, which he "can only describe as the most surreal thing I've ever seen here in the UK, a pyramid." He noted the structure offered "amazing views of the Scottish highlands" and shared that the revelation was unexpected because he "was only ever taught that things such as this were in Egypt.". The solo traveller recommended the site for a weekend adventure adding: "Now I'm not saying this is anywhere near the same scale but when it's surrounded by settings like this you can't beat it and if you're looking to fill that free upcoming weekend with an adventure this is one I'd highly recommend, go and enjoy it.".
Tom's TikTok post caption reads: "For anyone who didn’t realise there’s a Pyramid in the UK, just give this a watch….I didn’t know either until a week ago. "The power of UK of adventure at its finest - a surreal thing I never thought I’d see in this country for sure. Who thinks they’ll take a trip to here now!?". The footage about the pyramid has amassed 496,100 views, secured 400 likes, and received over 300 comments. Amongst the shocked viewers, one declared: "I'm 44 from Scotland and didn't know about it.".
Another was thrilled: "Thanks so much I never fancied Egypt but this is brilliant." A third remarked in surprise: "No way! That's so amazing. I had no idea. Thanks for sharing." While a fourth expressed their disbelief: "I feel like I'm being pranked. How have I never heard of this?". Prince Albert's Cairn, also known as the Balmoral Pyramid, can be found in Ballater, a quaint Victorian village nestled in the heart of Royal Deeside within the stunning Cairngorms National Park. The monument was built in 1862 by Queen Victoria to commemorate her beloved husband Prince Albert after his death, using granite and standing at an impressive 41 feet by 41 feet at its base.
